Moyie River Overlook and Bridge

Great views of the Moyie River and dam from one of the highest bridges in Idaho.

The Moyie River flows through one of Idaho's most impressive canyons. Standing less than 100 feet tall, Moyie Falls is one of the highest volume waterfalls in Northern Idaho. Thundering out of a 10 foot wide slot in the canyon, the Moyie River explodes 70 feet into a palisade of white thunder and mist in an impressive gorge before casacding another 25 feet. Though the falls have been harnessed for hydroelectric production, they remain impressive all year long with the best views during the spring melt.

The Moyie Bridge spans between the canyon which is 450 feet high over the white water. The 1,223-foot-long steel truss Moyie River Bridge, built in 1964, is the second highest in the state. Stop at the rest area just east of the bridge for a good view of the span.

One half mile east of Moyie Springs on U.S. Highway 2 heading toward Montana, the entrance to the overlook and rest area is on the east bound lane. Picnic tables available.
